Art Meme | Vincent van Gogh - Almond Blossom
In a letter from Theo van Gogh to his older brother Vincent, it was announced that Theo’s newborn was to be named Vincent Wilhelm. The brothers were very close, and Vincent set out to paint a gift for the new parents: a painting of blossoming branches against a blue sky.
The dark outlines of the branches and the widespread placement of branches were certainly inspired by Japanese prints. It is still unclear whether the blossoms were painted from their original position or were placed in a vase before work began. What is known, is that Almond Blossom is rather unusual in comparison to the other examples of still life paintings. [x]
